Deerfield Beach is a city in Broward County Florida. The city is named for the deer that once roamed the area. Population estimated by the U.S. census bureau in 2004 was 76,478. Deerfield Beach is part of the South Florida meto area which has a population of approximately 5,463,856 people. The median income for a household in the city was $34,041, and the median income for a family was $44,853. Males had a median income of $35,154 versus $27,451 for females.
Deerfield Beach is located on the Atlantic Ocean about three miles south of Boca Raton and 20 miles north of Fort Lauderdale. Deerfield Beach was incorporated in 1925. Although Deerfield Beach is heavily influenced by tourism, the city's economy today is more diversified and includes manufacturing and office services among its industries.
Points of interest include the Deerfield Beach Arboretum, also known as the Tree Zoo, contains more than 200 different species of trees and palms from around the world. Quiet Waters Park, a 430-acre venue which includes a freshwater swimming beach, a lake for cable water-skiing, and a high-tech water playground for kids. Fishing and camping are also features of the park. Deerfield Island Park is an urban wilderness area located on an island bordered by the Hillsboro Canal, and the Intracoastal Waterway.
Deerfield Beach's annual events include the Deerfield Beach Mango Festival which is one of South Florida's largest multicultural festivals. Another major city event is The Florida Renaissance Festival, held on five weekends during February and March. It features sights and sounds of jousting knights, court jesters, and a gala five course feasts.
